My Experience of Installing the FC Disk Shelf (DSmk14) for FAS3020 filer.

My Experience of Installing the FC Disk Shelf (DSmk14) for FAS3020 filer.

Hello Friends, I want to share my experience of installing the disk shelf for one of my customer as it was
My first disk shelf call, and I completely messed up that call and I have really a bad experience of that call. So I want to share it with you all.
How to find out that your filer is in Hardware base disk ownership or software base disk ownership.
1.       Check in auto support message of the filer there you will find the SANOWN disable below disk information.
2.       If you forgot to check the auto support message then you can type some cmd  like disk show  –v
Or disk show -o if these cmd does not work then your filer is using the hardware base disk ownership.

What to keep in mind in Hard ware base disk ownership.
1.       If you have one filer then it is not a big problem to connect the new disk shelf, just you have to keep the knowledge of looping.
2.       If your filer is in cluster then you have to be clear that to which filer you want to give the ownership of new add disk.
3.       When you are clear about that then connect the FC cable from the ESHA module of disk shelf to the filer to whom you want to give the ownership.
4.       Because in Hardware base disk ownership which filer is connected with the ESHA module get the ownership of newly added disk.(separate loop)
5.       Second thing keep in mind that if you are adding the newly added disk shelf in existing loop then the ownership of that newly added disk will go to the filer which is having the ownership of whole loop.
6.       Keep in mind once if the ownership is given to any filer in cluster then it is not possible to change the ownership without rebooting.(in Hardware base disk ownership).
